the deer ran by this morning
sunlight in her eye
her hide sleek with sweat and salt
her stride empty of fear

there's dust by your bedside
that the lake promises to clean
the lake's lady will keep your secret
as your hand closes on the night

polecat sniffs nice to meet ya
at the deer's reply
they share the brush together
